well man, i use a Canon 20D. Great camera for any skill level!

and as for catching the car with the tires in the air...dont know if i can give away my trade secrets...lol...but all i do is watch the tree and try and time my picture to when i think the driver will launch the car. sometimes my reaction time is faster then the drivers and other times its perfect! you just have to practice.
