The thought of a 9-second anything cruising public streets in the ’60s was unthinkable. Top Fuelers barely ran that fast back then, and no door-slammers came close. But thanks to the pace of technology, wheel-standing 9-second street machines are very real today.

Meet Todd Tyson out of Blaine, Minnesota, who has the fastest stock-appearing first-gen Camaro we’ve seen in a very long time—maybe ever. While most people are trying to figure out ways to make their slow cars look fast, Todd retained the classic lines from GM (with the exception of a noticeable fiberglass hood for added clearance), and it seems he’s gone out of his way to make the car look slower. It’s not exactly a sleeper, but it’s close until he opens the hood or fires it up. We were shocked to find an all-aluminum big-block that propels Todd effortlessly into the mid-9s when the need arises—on small-tread tires no less. And while some may think that’s nearing the limit for a truly streetable car, watch out. Todd tells us that he still has some tricks up his sleeve.
