I have an idea. This would probably only work well for RWD drag cars. Before the rear axle, have the exhaust pipe split into two equal lengths and run them perpendicular to the length of the car, out to the edge of the frame. Weld a 90deg bend onto the end of the pipe so that the exhaust would now be blowing directly onto the tread of the tire. The hot exhaust gases would heat up the tire, making it sticky and improving traction down the entire track.

This this would work?
