NHRA - Minimum age rule for national event competitors in 2008
NHRA officials have announced a minimum age requirement for drivers competing at NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series events, beginning in 2008. Starting next year, all competitors at NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series events will be required to be 18 or older.
The rule is in response to California's recent interpretation of the Master Settlement Agreement, which was reached in 1998 between many states and the tobacco industry.
Graham Light, senior vice president of racing operations, NHRA, explained that competitors in NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional events, weekly programs, and O'Reilly NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League are not affected by the new rule.
