go for acoustic, get a book.. read and learn the chords.. pay for some lessons.
Electric is good cause you can start hiding your mistakes, acoustic is not nearly as forgiving.

the strings from top to bottom are EBGDAE a way to remember thet is

Every Bad Girl Deserves An Enima lol

ALso, its easier to learn on an electric guitar as the strings are not so hard on your fingers... But acoustic is the way to go. but if you learn one, you learn em all..

Start with an acoustic. get it from a second hand store, as it's cheaper in case you dont' like it

Get a classical guitar, the strings are all nylon, and it's easier on the fingers. If you can learn to pick, and have both hands doing something completly different you will be on your way.

Classical is amazing, I love playing that more than electric, but if he's starting out and wants to learn easy rock songs or whatever, that's definately not the way to go. The style you play a classical guitar and the style you play electric or accoustic are so different from each other, I felt like a complete noob picking up an electric after years of classical.

Go for an accoustic only if the style of music you play allows for that, or if you don't mind ****ing around on one. If you don't like the guitar you won't practice and won't get better :P So pick something you'll enjoy the most rather than what you feel you should have to start out on.

i have a fender and acustic(drunk cant spell) no real point in acoustic guitar, you can do the same thing in electric just the frets are farther apart, start playing something simple, like punk for example, then move on to offspring which is a good base for starters, then move on to something like nirvana, the megadeth. enjoy by the way i have a friend who is teaching my little brother if you really want to learn seriously you should pm me and hes gonna hook you up with lessons, but this guy is pretty much booked i can try and get you in sometime but its not guaranteed.
