Hmm, I don't see you need alot of money for a drag car. They are cheap to build. Once you have the shell, the rest is easy. It shouldn't cost no more then $7000 to take your civic to full race car doing 10's. Then depending on how good you are, no more then about another $7000 a year to keep it going with parts.
i don't think so but if you can prove that i would like to see it...i know how much things cost but if you have some proof post it up post a list
I'll have to agree with Mark on this one. So far on my car this is roughly what it's gonna be costing plus there is a lot more I'm sure I'm forgetting as well. I got the shell for free for doing some work for a friend so that didn't cost a cent. Then there is the one piece fiberglass front end- lil over $1000, roll cage- $1400 and up, seat and harness close to $1000, Fuel cell and lines- around $400, fuel pump- $400, lexan windows- around $600, mild front brake upgrade- $600, rims and slicks- $2200. Thats all ready over the $7000 budget and thats not even my whole chassis yet. Then there is still the motor which so far sports ported and shaved head with bigger valves, cam and gear, 4 puck clutch and light weight flywheel, tons of bolt on stuff and more still to come. By the time this thing makes it to the trac I'll have spent well over I'll guess $30,000. And with all that invested I'll be happy to come home with second last place in the class. Lol. It realy is quite expensive to do this kind of project. I thought it would be a lot cheaper too when I started building it but quickly realized how fast things add up. Oh well at least it's fun!

In your dreams.....
$7000/yr grand to maintain a race car??????
A weekend beater race car maybe but not a real race car you plan to compete with. Why don't you ask what the guys running super street domestics pay to maintain their cars or when something breaks. Or pro 5.0 mustangs etc. That's why I got out of it. My little velrco wallet was no match for the big boys like Ed Rice, J+P, etc etc.
Remeber, you have to be ready WHEN something breaks, not HOPE that nothing breaks.

Well building a race car is easy.
Paying for it is the trick.
Now this can be a race car for the 4 banger roundie rounds or a cascar style car to a drag race chepo or a full blown race car, It all depends on what class how fast and how much funds u have.
Now u can build a say a stang for around 10 grand and still be beat by a guy with half that in his car yet u can beat some one with 3 times the money in there car. This sport can go so many ways.
But if u crank on your own wrenchs and shop around u can build a car well on a cheap budget over time. But it still comes down to how fast u want to go and spend.

Not hard at all to prove it. You get the shop space and money to do it. I will put up my time and knowledge. We will set the cap at $7000. To make this interesting to, I will pay for everything if the car does not do 10's and if it does, I get the car. Actually,I just want credit that it can be done and my name on the car.
