Rumors in the lanes were stock tranny... Why bother coming out
1300 + stock tranny = disaster..even if they brake they ruin the track for the rest for atleast an hour... spewing tran fluid down the track at 140 MPH
because, someone did say that car rn 140 MPH in the 1/8th in the U.S.
I was under the impression that the car was making 1300hp... I asked Steve and he said that it was making 1300hp when it was in Louisiana for the World Street Race. It's running lower boost with less timing right now in an attempt to keep the weak transmission from blowing up. The car is obviously making a lot less then that, I just didn't know because no one told me. I left the track before the car ran yesterday so I don't know what happened... but when I find out, I'll be sure to run over to the computer and tell you guys what happened because I care so much what you guys think about the car. All I can say is that you sure can tell the people who have never really tried something new, or else those people would understand the problems that would arise when you do that... but then again, the main people in this conversation drive a Honda and a Mustang (or at least used to) so they really wouldn't have any idea about that.
2 tone - The reason the car doesn't have a proper transmission is because a proper transmission costs more then $7000 and it would require the car to be down for a few weeks... could you afford that transmission without having a major sponsorship?
GTI2lo - Please show me where I was bragging, gloating, and shooting my mouth off. I might have said once or twice that the car was making that kind of power, but it surely wasn't as extreme as your making it out to be. Ever stop to think WHY the car wasn't burning the tires down the track, or sounding like it makes 1300hp? What's the point of running your car down an ice cold track with the gas pedal on the floor when you know right from the beginning of the run that it isn't going to hook up... obviously you've only ever driven FWD GTIs or else you'd know what happens.
Anyway, the 1300hp car makes 250hp and runs 13's, let's leave it at that because that's what you geniuses have figured out.
Its not jealousy. But they are saying you sunk the money in the wrong places first. Its a good motor to play with and they have potential to scream but, your problem to get a turbo to last is hurting you. I would keep running out and trying different turbos or bigger ones. I think you should realy check your problems that you have, other wise you will just keep burning them out. I would first make sure that you getting a ample supple of oil to the turbo, the other thing for high heat is you are running the fuel too lean creating more heat. I know rotaries make more heat then most engines, but running lean can increase it the heat too. I think that this maybe the cause as you said it won't rev about 10000 rpm. These are just some suggestions. I love the intake design, we built one like that for a V8 intake last year, but we scraped the Idea as the RX that we was too twisted and didn't want to tube it.
I already said what we were doing to fix the turbo problem... inconel exhaust wheel.
^ Sorry, it's hard to tell whose joking and who isn't. I'm serious abour your Civic though, it sucks

As for the tranny, try rebuilding it yourself with upgraded parts. That is all the $7000 one is anyways.
It WILL fix it. If it doesn't fix it, then nothing else will. I'm pretty sure it will though, inconel is what turbine blades in gas turbine engines are made of.
You're right about the transmission though, there is a gear set available that fits inside the Turbo II transmission housings... but we might as well buy a proper transmission rather then skimping out on just a gear set. Who knows, the cases might start cracking after we put in upgraded gears.

Am i a shop, no. Could i afford it, yes...with budgeting and less eating fast food...
Im not even sure they produce a $7000 tranny for a stang, maybe a g-force, not sure what theyre going for. But i would more than likely go with the tremec for $2400, a fraction of the cost.
Im not saying its not cool to have a 1300 HP rx7, or its not possible, or that Steve is gay or any of that shit. Hardly my style! But all i know is that you may have been misinformed regarding the power output of that car. Big deal, dont care that much to take it any further than a few cheap shots, which are harmless.
I feel bad for Steve, he is a nice guy and he looked uncomfortable that day. I didnt talk to him. I took pics of the car cause i was interested, its cool. I had a rotary heap, non turbo.. so i felt a bond ..prolly made the same power too!
Everyone was talking about the rx7 (which is good for business...always).
The particular transmission we are looking at (Jerico) costs around $6700usd, so after you convert it to CDN, it costs more then $7000. One of the reasons it costs so much is that they have to build it for us, its not going to be sitting on a shelf already like a Mustang transmission would be. I guess it would be cheaper if they sold more of them, but they don't.
Anyway, lets forget about this shit storm... it's my fault for being misinformed.
