Eggum Racing...#1 Qualifier & Hot Rod Winner!
Quote:
NHRA Season Opener, #1 Qualifier & Hot Rod Winner!
As always, it was a stressful couple of months leading up to the season opener last weekend in Moroso, FL. Taking the time for some much needed improvements, such as a new front end built at MSP Motorsports, AR Fabrication midplate and Liberty transmission, left no time for testing prior to the race. Living in Chicago doesn't help much either, considering it was snowing the week of the race.
Straight off the trailer, the Eggum Racing Civic ran an 8.72 @ 173mph and 8.60 @ 175 mph in Saturday's qualifying rounds, taking the #1 qualifying position. The semi-finals paired Stephanie against Stephane Beauregard's Dodge Shelby. Taking the lead off the starting line with a better reaction time, it was an exciting race and there was a huge reaction from the crowd as her civic took the win with an 8.50 @ 175mph to Beauregard's 8.55. She lined up against Kenny Tran for the final round and instantly took the win as he never left the starting line due to mechanical issues, but still ran another consistent pass of 8.54 @ 177mph.
Taking the win made Stephanie the first woman since 2001 to win in the Hot Rod class (2nd ever) and was the first Wally of her career. "I must give props to my crew, who made the weekend possible, my crew chief Jeromie Hicks, Jim Eggum and Harry Hruska. The first race is always more nerve racking, especially having not driven the car since last October, so the weekend was a bit surreal, it's still sinking in. Definitely an amazing start to the season and we plan on being a top contender the rest of this year." says Stephanie Eggum.
NHRA and Sony Xplod have stepped it up this year, drawing a huge crowd for the first race of the season. The fans were amazing, filling the stands for each round of racing, stopping by to check out the car in the pits and coming to the autograph session on Sunday.
