91 Talon TSi Build up

Well blew the head gasket on my TSi sky high! LOL I think there was a problem with it before I got it. Anyway once I got the head off you could see the metal ring on the gasket that goes around the pistons was split right in half.

Here is the motor before:

and here is what it looked like once I get it all apart.

I removed a lot of stuff that won't be going back into the car once I have the rebuild done. Entire AC system is gone... everything. lots of heat shields and other mounting brakes that arn't really needed. I am also going to paint all that crappy rusty stuff.
To my suprise the pistons where amazingly clean for a 14 year old car.

Well I'll be getting some new rings and more goodies and cleaning the block. I am pretty happy with the internal condition of the motor. So I'll post more pictures as soon as I get the pistons out and some new stuff in.

hey, I sent you a PM...

do you still have that A/C stuff? I need it, and will pay you a couple bucks for it.

BTW that looks awfully familiar!! I recommend a cometic head gasket, I've run over 20 PSI on it, and they're pretty much bulletproof.

sent you one back about the A/C

and book says 6 hours to just do timing... book is gay sometimes. I have done jobs that call for 10 hours and I did them in 8... Oh well. and I don't even have half the tools some of these master mechanics have.

Timing is pretty damn easy on those cars espically when you have the head off you can just screw around with it all you want.

best way was to leave the cam pullies zip tied and use white out to mark it, that way it's VERY easy to time it as you just slide it all back on in one piece. Belt, pullies etc.

Make sure you don't have the balance shaft pulley off 180*, they could swing both ways while looking like the marks are aligned.

I would rather advice AGAINST using a cometic. Not to say they don't work as advertised, but they have a 50/50 chance of either working or failing. I dont think I have to tell you which 50 side I was on when I put my head on.

Right now I`m running the OEM Mitsu 4-layer metal head-gasket with .. well.. LOTS of boost and it's not giving me any problems, so that is my suggestion.

some people have said they had problems with getting the cometics to sit right, but mine went on without a hitch.

Well my timing belt was toast so I cut the pos :P
LOL!

The Balance Belt is coming out and a new timing belt is going on.

I think it shouldn't be that hard getting it on.
