Hey Boosted
I said they dont have a Vin number.
A vin number is something that is by the MOV and auto manufacturer to regester a car and tells all alot about the car as well. Like plant it was built is number in the line as well as some of the letters and numbers are used as part of the build code.

Slow5.0
Now when u buy say a LOLA chassis number XXXX-XXXX and Lola would have all the chassis numbers on file. Your right They would have a number for it but its not a Vin Number its manufacturer number and a serial number that goes with It would not look like the little tag on your dash.

And Boosted i'm about as much a newb as U

sorry randy your wrong,

VIN stands for vehicle identification number,

doesn't have to mean a number put there by manufacters...so a chassis number would be a VIN number since its the number of the car, it only is a means of identifying the car

Thumbs up

VIN = vehicle identification number..

im sorry, but if "race cars " didnt need VINs then you could go across the border, chop a ferrari, yank the tags, and cross and say SORRY NO VIN = RACE CAR..r i g h t .... good luck.

Vehicle has to be identified somehow, atleast when questioned about it.
Because if not, then whose to say we dont go steal the 8 second vega and just claim it as ours

No one would buy a car without proper paperwork.. $100,000 race car with no paper work and $7,000 lein.. wouldnt that be ballz to get it repo'd.

Anyways, though i dont know for certain, i will attempt to find out...

VIN numbers on race cars are called chassis numbers, and EVERY chassis has one. The manufacturer stamps it on the chassis, or welds a small plate somewhere, so that if anything goes wrong, eg, broken welds, etc, he knows who built it and when. Hence the same info as a VIN, just without colour, interior options and all the other crap in a VIN. Can't beleive that needed to be explained on a drag racing site.

Im using the term VIN as the acronym to vehicle identification number just as i stated. Be it a chassis vin/tag/stamping or not.
Every car ive seen built at some of the local shops CAME with paper work. Now i know theyre not building indy cars and such, but i know they wouldn't touch the car without paper work.

I would never invest my money into a car without knowing its MINE 100%.

But Mark come There is VIN that ford chevy honda and all other cars that are diven in Canada get to have here We can agree on that. Its what is refered to as VIN for your car. Now U can build a Kit car here and get a VIN, U can do a RBT and get a VIN. How do u get a VIN like this? U should Know.

But Build a top fuel rail do u get the same kind of VIN?
Buy race car it dont have a VIN that will be acepted as a VIN for any MTO or MOV in Canada or the US. But its is a Identification number for that car or whatever. Its not a VIN that u would get from Minstry of T now is it.
Its a identification number but its not the same as whats given to cars trucks driven in Canada or US now is it.
