2002 Cavalier Z24's came standard w/ the 2.4L Twin-Cam I4 BUT the new 2.2L Ecotec DOHC 16V I4 was an option on the Z24 ONLY.
2003-2005 ALL Cavalier's, meaning ALL models, came with the 2.2L Ecotec now, Z24, Z22 or baseline, it didnt matter.

ALSO JSYK the Z22 is NOT a factory option, thats a DEALER thing. Just a sticker/emblem...

Strange tho, all kinds of people are making 500+ WHP on stock VR6's... just a tiny deckplate and that's it... compleatly stock block/internals/head... no reliability issues at all.

Actually, get your facts straigt again. The Z24 did not come on the new body styles until the 2003 models. The Z24 is just a sticker that was put on by the dealers. It has no meaning to the orignal Z24.

is the inbreeeding really affecting your brain so much? in 1995 the z24 had a 2.3 while the regular cav had a 2.2, after that until 2002 all z24's only had the 2.4 liter, a different tranny, different suspension aswell while evreything else came with the 2.2junk motor. in late 2002 gm made the ecotec the motor for evreything, z24, ls, everything. your trying to educate the wrong person about these cars, brother ive forgotten more about the j body platform than youll everknow.

the z22 was a sticker package same as the sunfire gto, sticker package, same junk suspension and motor. the z24 and sunfire gt from 1996 to 2002 was the only car in the j body line up to get a 2.4 liter. period. everything else took the 2.2 non ecotec motor.

you should take yours friends advice and just stop wastingyour time here. it just shows you dont know anything at all

oh and the original z24s were just a body package by the dealer, everything else was the same. even the motor was offereed in the base rs models. the z24 gave you a fiberglass hood with louvers, side skirts and front and rear bumper from 1988 to 1994. other than that everything including the motor yo ucould have baught was all the same. you got your facts backwards there princess
