all I'm saying is that when I get pulled over for no reason and I have to sit in my car for a half hour while the cop thinks of tickets to give me, someone is getting stabbed for their crack money.
Way to go, thats tax money well spent!!
going the speed limit in the middle of the day on my own street, I get pulled and given a ticket for my plate being bent, then one for my muffler being too loud (while the cop was standing a foot away from it) and get this... my ownership said red but my car was blue. ( I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE BODY SHOP! NO TRIM, NO INTERIOR, BONDO DUST ALL OVER IT. HE DIDNT EVEN GIVE ME A BREAK ON IT. )
With what you said about the community assisting, I agree. Infact, the other night on global they had a brother of a shooting victim on (they were from the Jane-Finch area). He even said he wouldn't tell police anything if he even KNEW who it was. The police can only do so much but I think you may start to see a shift in what they will go after.
Yeah, thats cause if you speak up, your gonna live in fear. Thats something you learn in grade school.. You speak up, you will regret it. Which sucks cause thats how its gonna be.
Neighborhood watch???? nah, its neighborhood watch you don't get seen as a witness..
^^ Yea yea, I knew all of that. I was just commenting at the fact in those areas (where it seems to be concentrated) that sort of thing can cost you your life.
i think people that think the police can stop crime are just fooling themselves. someone getting angry and grabbing a gun and shooting someone is unstoppable.
unless everyone had a cop at their side, its impossible for the police to be proactive in stopping an individual's crimes.
and we shoudlnt expect them to.
again a cop doing traffic duty is not going to be investigating a gang call anyways, so why does it matter if someone gets shot while another cop is handing out a ticket. its very ignorant to assume that one has something to do with the other.
there will never be a way to remove all handguns from criminals, so its going to happen regardless. all the police can and will ever be able to do is try to catch the people that did it.
but complaining that the police arent doing enough to stop crime before it happens is retarded. how do you expect them to do that? did YOU know the guy was about to get shot? why didnt YOU call the cops to help them out....
So lets all join hands and walk into the lake till we drown like nice little lemmings. This has to be the most negative, defeatist attitude I have ever heard! Cops dont stop crime? Then why are we paying their wages? Why do we finance their equipment etc? Why is there a justice system at all? Tell me that?

That is so sad that no one will even stand up for their rights. We are talking about a small group of A Holes versus what.... 2 million and growing population? People need to grow some balls here! If this crap happened where I am there would be public outrage and the cops would be held accountable.
**** police. They excpect him to talk??? its not like they would be able to stop HIM from getting shot, if you live in those areas, you have to take care of yourself, the police wont help you, they cant... I think its already too late for toronto, in a few years detroit will seem like a playground.

only a moron would think that cops had the power to STOP crime before it happens on a regular basis.
i guess you are under the impression that the police are like superman and can hear someone thinking about commiting a crime and stop him before he does it?
sure you can investigate something based off of tips, but 90% of the time you are answering calls or doing paperwork, detectives are investigating major crimes that have been passed on to them, and the specialized squads are trying to combat crime by busting everyone they can.
none of those cops has the ability to see in someones head. the guy they just walked pas on queen st. is about to rob a variety store with a gun. he didint tell anyone he was going to do it, and is planning on killing the clerk before he robs the place. why didnt the cops arrest him as he walked past? they had no chance to stop this crime.
most anger based, retaliatory crime... assaults, murder, etc.. are not planned, there is no info that can travel to tthe cops. there is no way to stop it.
i'm being realistic. you need to take your head out of your ass.
I see you have anger management issues. I realize cops aren't supermen. As if we would put that kind of legal power in the hands of someone like that. We would have a dictatorship in a heartbeat. Ok Mr. Sentra, if the police dont have to solve crimes, then what are we paying them for? Not to be sarcastic but you opened a can of worms here and it would be nice if you could seriously and honestly explain what their purpose is?

yes is the cops job to solve crimes.
you kept talking about cops STOPPING crime.
they cant. (in most cases)
they can only pick up the pieces in most cases.
dont you agree, or understand that?
if they have no evidence they cant solve them, period. and if witnesses wont come forward, you cant expect the cops to be able to do that. sure we can debate for ever whether its rigth or wrong that people wont come forward, and how to solve that problem. the reality however, is that as long as criminals are able to intimidate people (and they always will be able to if those people are weak... but we cant change that either) there will be situations where they wont come forward out of fear for their own safety.
it sounds to me like you misinterpreted what you wrote.
stopping crime and solving crime are two different things.
