That's approx what I spent on my 2l. But my Rabbit ready to race only weighs 1952 lbs. Power to weight = 12.36 at 106.
You call that power to weight? 380 hp in a car that light will net u a lot higher trap speeds then that... even if the car was heavier, u'r trap speeds would be higher...
And just going back on what you said earlier... you don't necessarily need to build your engine internally and spend $8000 doing so. Mazda makes pretty strong engines from the factory, so you may be able to get well into the 14's by just turbocharging your stock engine.
For example, with the weaker version of my engine (Miata 1.6L) people have produced close to 300WHP without opening up the engine because they have selected the proper parts and know how to tune. Half the battle of producing decent power is being able to tune properly. You can have a fully built bullet proof engine, but if you can't tune it, it's pointless.
Yes I know the engine is over built, but I originally planned to race IDRC super street. Then they changed the car age limit to 1988. So much for that. And yes I know my trap speeds are low. I'm hoping to pick up some slicks this year so I can use the throttle. Right know I can't get on it until 3rd gear. And even then I've got wheel spin. And I am planning to get a digital camera and scanner soon. But I am the main bread earner in my family and have a house and so far 1 kid. So we have priorities. Trust me as soon as I get those, I've got 18 timing slips ( I checked), from 12.36 as the fastest to 12.45 as the slowest. And next time I at my moms house, she has a nice new digital, so we're taking the VW to Sarnia next time we go. I'm gonna get a hard time for my 60 ft times too. They average around 1.9 sec.

That's what I'm thinking... sounds like a whole lot of to me
Even WITH traction problems 380 HP in a 1900lbs car should net u at least 113+ MPH traps... more like 115+ MPH
O.K. I went through my slips. Fastest e.t. 12.36 @ 116. I must have been on crack when I put down 106. Rt was .241, 60 ft 1.8. So I was wrong on my trap speed. My bad.
