someone told me its bad to turbo a stock motor.. they tell me to do a swap for a jdm motor then turbo.. but can i not put boost on the stock 2.0 and obviously mod that motor a bit
You can boost any engine, but unless you do some head work and bottom end work, I wouldn't go over 6-8 pounds of boost. Don't forget boost adjustable fuel regulator.
Well that depends on how you set up the rest of the engine. If you just slapped on the turbo with no injectors or FPR, you might gain as much as 50 hp. But if you wait and get an intercooler, FPR, bigger injectors, bigger exhaust, etc, The sky is the limit. My 2L 16v engine in my rabbit is putting out approx 380hp and 390 ft lbs of torque at 20 psi. At 8 psi, where I have i the boost set on the street, I'm getting maybe 270 hp, but in a 1900lb car it's still not driveable in the rain. Now if all you want is a street car, putting a turbo on a stock engine will give you a fast fun car, but it will not get you enough to take a sti or even an srt-4. Bottom line, don't skimp when you build it.
so what are you saying by doing head work and bottem end work. What would i be doing there? Like when i think bottom work, i think crankshaft bearing and what not. SO I would have to make those better? and head work?
Head work = port polish, bigger valves, cams, valve springs, injectors.
Bottom end work = knife edge, balance, bracing the caps, pistons, rods.
how much do you want to spend. What do you want the car to do? Ask yourself this before you start an engine build up, and stick to what you want. My engine cost approx 8000 dollars, and I don't regret a penny of it. However it also took me almost 2 years to complete.
i was considering that, but someone told me to boost it.. SO i basically have my options. I think i will once day boost my car.. i'm willing to drop 8000 into it.
