Pathetic, to me Toyota is a joke, a profitable joke, but a car making joke nonetheless. Even that Toyota Supra thingy they made 7-8 years ago was slow. But at least it was a sporty car.

The money is in the econo market as the numbers show. You think "Ted" with 3 kids, a wife, mortage, etc is gonna be thinking about handing an Echo its ass???? So much for the "FUN" cars keeping GM out of financial ruin. BTW the only fun (and real) car GM has is the vette anyways.
You don't think Toyota can make a high perf car if they wanted to? As previous history shows, they did, but the North American market won't pay for an expensive Japanese car. Period. They'd rather a) keep it domestic and buy a vette or b) buy a high dollar euro that comes with the high profile (ie. BMW / Benz).
To be profitable you don't go looking at the small demographic like high perf buffs. With the increaing price of gas, if the "former" big 3 keep making 6 litre 500ci buses, they're gonna hurt even more. As much as you and I don't like it, get used to the fact that North America will be like Europe in the next 20 years and all we'll be able to afford is to race Echo's and smart cars.
Toyota is like the Maple Leafs. Why spend money on superstars when the Air Can Centre is sold out every single game since they moved there. Not pathetic, just smart business.
