3sgte built to 350rwhp-400rwhp on a Paseo

Now guyz this is something ive had in my head for a pretty damn long time.... i havea 3sgte motor and i have several parts to put on the motor but instead of going with the mr2 i was thinkn somethin out of the ordinary such has the small and light paseo.... and since the weight to power ratio will b great i think its a good project and theres this guy down in the states put the 3sgte in a 90' tercel .... i wanna know whether the motor would fit and what i mite have to do to keep the frame straight cuz ive been told that i mite need to drop a cage and then i heard that theres noo need... i wanna get a 3rd opinion and im hoping to get some feed back on it

How about you swap it into a first gen AW11 MR2? They are very light cars, and the swap itself isn't that hard. The back of the intake manifold will be pretty close to the rear firewall so you might have to cut into your trunk, but other then that, it's an easy swap if you are capable of sucessfully designing and fabricating a set of engine mounts. The car would be easily capable of 13's with just the stock engine, and it would hook up off the line like nothing else.

Look on the MR2 forum for more information. I know if I had a 3SGTE, the next thing I bought would be an MR2.

Ok so you don't like the look of the MR2 but you think a Tercel is better?

I understand that you want to be unique, but trust me, my lightweight FWD car has problems hooking up with just 155whp. You're talking about 350-400whp in a light weight car, which basically means you'll never ever be able to put that power to the ground. Ever. From a physics standpoint, the Mk1 MR2 is the best chassis to put an engine of that power into because the most weight is over the drive wheels. Plus RWD cars are way more fun to drive then FWD cars.

I wouldnt be of much help.. but the upcomming project i am working on. Is building up a old school supra (1988) with a 3sgte (I have a spare one when i did the JDM swap in my Celica alltrac) and just restore the body to factory..

I know its not a light car but its a car that she likes (the old school looks) and since i havent seen it done to the 88's (yet) think it may be a good project

toyota has lots of other cars that the 3S can swap into.. but i think that the paseo would be a great build..

Just wondering are you planing on using the MR2 tranny (with LSD)?

Edward.

^ If he swapped the 3SGTE into the first gen, he'd have to use the SW20 3SGTE transmission because of the different bellhousing. I think axles from a supercharged AW11 MR2 are a direct fit, which reduces a lot of the headache. The shift cables are also already in the correct spot.

If I were you, I'd be looking for a first gen MR2 from the USA. They are a lot more common down there, and chances are that most of the cars would be in far better condition then anything found up here because there isn't as much snow in the US.
