I want to have my exhaust coming out just in front of the rear tire shooting about 45 degrees to the back. Will I get hassled by cops for having it exit there? Noise isn't a concern, I'm planning on running a big muffler. Magnaflow 6" round and 27" long type of big
Not sure about legal, but it's really hard on the tire. Ask anyone who had a VW beetle with the gas heater. The exhaust exited into the wheel well, and had a nasty habit of destroying the tire. Exhaust is not good for tires.
we have it like that on our race car.. no concerns with the tire.. as long as it sticking out a little further then the car, it souldn't be a problem. the only concern cops will give you is the fact that fumes may enter the car if its not out the back..
cops are cops, if they are in a bad mood, they will get you for anything they see fit.

Yeah NASCAR does that to. But how long are the tires on a race car for?
I have an idea. This would probably only work well for RWD drag cars. Before the rear axle, have the exhaust pipe split into two equal lengths and run them perpendicular to the length of the car, out to the edge of the frame. Weld a 90deg bend onto the end of the pipe so that the exhaust would now be blowing directly onto the tread of the tire. The hot exhaust gases would heat up the tire, making it sticky and improving traction down the entire track.

Who knows, it might. It would make burning out look even cooler though

no, real fast drag cars want their tires a certain temperature, and it's always varying on track surface temps and ambient temps altogether...
Hot Track, cold tires, cold track, hot tires etc etc...
