Ditto. I didn't buy my first car until I was 18. 1982 VW diesel Rabbit. POS. But got great mileage, and never broke. I'm tempted to get another one now with the gas prices. When I first got my liscense I drove Mommy's Volvo wagon, or Daddy's Jeep Comanche. And was happy to get the hell out of the house. BTW if anyone goes to Sarnia's Canatara park, those stupid green posts around the parking lot and road, are my fault.

I got an 86 GTI before I even got my G2... beat the shit out of that car and it never broke. It was even missing a cam cap, cause the part of the head where it bolted into was broken, but still ran like a champ. The engine and tranny in that car still run good till this day in another golf.
