Hard drive manufacturers

I'm thinking about getting a slave drive for my computer. Can anyone recommend a good drive? Looking at either Maxtor, which is what my master is, or Western digital. Both are 250 gig.

Maxtor has a huge turnover, though it could be relevent to their high volume sales.

Ive had a number of Maxtors and ive had about 6 fail on me. Ive had 1 seagate fail ever, which i won at auction for $6 and it lasted a year.. LOL

Maxtors are cheap. Tigerdirect sells a ton of refurbs too, theyre cheap.

I've learned that buying cheap, gets you cheap. You want quality, you pay for it. Which is why I'm getting Sirius, with Howard Stern, and whatever else comes with it.

They're all about the same, really. Name a top brand and I've had a failed drive from them... I'd say let price be your guide, or what's on sale, as the manufacturing differences between the companies are minor, especially if it's just going to be a storage drive.

Please don't tell me that we can't buy/subscribe to Siruis here. I wanted to get it so I can listen to Stern at work on the PC.

Why wouldn't you be able to buy it from here?

On Dec. 1 we get SIRIUS in Canada. Howard's 2 channels are not going to be broadcast in Canada. There was a press release the other day. In the news Robin even mentioned it.

Despite the country’s lax laws when it comes to lap dances and in-room pornography at hotels, SIRIUS Canada has decided not to air Howard’s show when it begins next year.

WD or Segate all the way..... Best drives out there IMO....

Maxtor's are a little cheap... too many refurbs out there being sold... so to me that = failures.

Anyways... My WD has been great so far, fast and it's really quiet too.
