Well the opty's aren't totally locked, you can lower the multiplier, just not increase it. This is for AMD's "Cool N' Quiet" which is good, because sometimes to get the high frequencies we need to drop the multi and crank the HTT.
Jay if you're going with a 939 opty, get the 146, it's $195 vs the 144's $165, but the 144 has a 9x multi, which doesn't seem to clock higher than 2.9, the 146 has a 10x multi which works great.
It's pretty easy to get 3.0GHZ... set the HTT to 300, set your ram divider, leave the multi @ 10X and just change the LDT to 3X. I may be building an opteron on monday, I'll let you know the results.
