Your computer should be more then good for internet duty.... While Rogers does seem be capping torents, there are certain ports u can try, like the much mentioned port 1720, there's also port 1755 i believe, and a few others... i'll see if I can find them and post em here...

I can't remember what torrent client you're running, I think you told me u'r runnin BitComet.. which is what I run, and I get good speeds with it set to port 1720...

Either way, as for a performance upgrade I would recomment another 512 of RAM that'll make a huge difference especially if you're not currently running a dual channel config (1 single stick of 512).

Rogers has no interest in you downloading torrents. Try the newsgroups.

I'm runing bitlord. I do have it configed to use port 1720. The ram is one stick of 512 and I'll definitely get another one.

2Tone - I'm definitely aware of rogers having their sights set on outlawing torrents.

BTW - I spoke to Rogers tech and they said they're raising the cap to 15mbps from the current 6 mbps they have it capped at for extreme subscribers. The guy said it will happen just not sure when they'll release the announcement.

VR - I haven't forgotten about your suggestions either. Working on it

Here's a snippet from a thread on another site.... try some of these ports, you might have better luck in u'r area...

But if the Roger tech told you that they're limiting Extreame users, that might explain a few things actually.

Anywho..

Quote:
here, i personally tested some ports that confirms steady and reasonable speed on BC 6.0.

1st, port 1755. original usage: rogers yahoo music streaming

2nd, port 587. original usage: yahoo suggested SMTP email service, in order to replace the blocked port 25.(usually lots of spams are sent via 25)

3rd, port 5100. original usage: yahoo messenger webcam services.

Wanna thank Jay (z28metalhead) for helping me out and fixing my comp. We added some memory (upped to 1gig), added a bigger CPU fan as he clocked it from 1.8 to 2.2 gig.

Works really nice. We just need to figue out the issue with my benQ dvd burner and the updated motherboard driver not being able to work together (i.e. computer won't boot when the benQ is hooked up using the new motherboard driver)

All in all, it is a much snappier computer now.

I think all I need to do now is do a registry cleanup and defrag it and it'll be good as new.

Thanks again!

Danny
